Hon’ble Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Government of India, Mr. Kapil Sibal, one of the senior-most Cabinet Ministers in the Union Cabinet, is on a visit to The Netherlands to give an impetus to the friendly relations between India and The Netherlands. The Hon’ble Minister will deliver the keynote address at the opening session of the Geospatial World Forum at 1600 hrs on Monday, 13th May 2013 to underscore India’s abiding interest in promoting contribution of state-of-the-art technology and its utility in the world economy both from Indian and Global perspective. The Hon’ble Minister, during his stay in The Netherlands, will also meet senior Dutch dignitaries, including Ministers and CEOs in the fields of telecom technology, infrastructure, environment, and Land Registry and Mapping.
2. The Hon’ble Minister is a Post Graduate in History from the prestigious St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi and also holds an LLM Degree from the Harvard Law School, USA. A Supreme Court Advocate by profession, before joining the politics, he has been Additional Solicitor General of India. After entering public life, he has been a Union Minister heading very important Ministries. His earlier Ministerial portfolios in the Government of India include Union Cabinet Ministers for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, and Human Resource Development. He has also held very key positions on various Indian Parliamentary Committees including Business Advisory and Home Affairs Committees. He has also been Vice President of Parliamentary Forum on Water Conservation & Management, and has also been active on Human Rights issues, including investigating cases of arbitrary detention throughout the world, and analyzed detention and detention laws in the context of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Covenant for Civil and Political Rights.
3. The Hon’ble Minister’s special interests include educational activism, reading, writing and travelling.
